“Dancing in September."
The film “Dancing in September” is a comedy-drama, which shows love and compromise. The film focuses on two African-Americans, who are hopeful to make an impact in the television industry. The names of these two main characters are Tommy and George. This film shows a positive part of the African-American lifestyle. The main intention of the paper is to target the black people. This paper will analyze the film “Dancing in September” and how the myth that the money can buy love and happiness is the central idea in the film and how it leads to disappointment and tragedy for the main characters.
In the film, the theme of love is well represented. This is seen in the characters of Tommy and George. From the way the two characters live their lives, it is clear that money cannot buy love and happiness in any family setup. For instance, James (Semaj), who transforms from rags to riches, demonstrates the myth money cannot buy love or happiness. The film also highlights Tommy as a struggling Hollywood writer and George, the studio executive, who is an ambitious person. The similarity between Tommy and George is that they both grew up watching too much television. Tommy realizes her dream by writing and selling a black script “Just Us” to George.
According to the two African-Americans, it is seen that anyone can experience love and happiness despite their origin. Tommy Crawford, who is a writer in Hollywood, is presented as having social concise and values. Tommy’s confidence is seen to progress after her work compromise. This shows how powerful her character is. George Washington being a studio executive, is represented as an ambitious person.  As an African-American, George seems hopeful in his line of work. His loyalty should lie in his community because he represents a minority group. Hence, what he does should propels him deeper into accomplishing his desires in life. On the other hand, James (Semaj) character is one of the best. This is because it signifies James change from being poor to being rich. The Network Executives, who work with George Washington, are very keen on what George does in the television industry (Bythewood). 
This film has several themes associated with it. Since the African-American is the minority in the television industry, much should be done to ensure more African-America work in this industry. The issue of the cultural environment should not feature in the television industry. The analysis of this film has shown that the African-Americans can do much in the television industry, just like other Americans. Since the market for the black people is few, this film acts as a marketing strategy for the African-American.
The film “Dancing in September” has highlighted how the African-American can produce quality shows without any interference. The character of Tommy and George represents two personalities and their struggles in the television industry. Through the critical analysis and evaluation, it is clear that money cannot buy love and happiness as shown by the character of James (Semaj), who ends up in frustration. From the film, the main characters represent a real situation in the world. The characters in the film “Dancing in September,” has brought about the theme money cannot buy love or money. The film is both educative and inspiring.
